The Terrible Tenor

Introducing Gracie McPhee… The Terrible Tenor

Gracie McPhee was a tenor drummer with green glitter in her hair, a fuzzy fuchsia sporran and purple polka dot stockings.

No matter what anyone said, Gracie refused to practice her drumming.

"Practice makes my tummy ache and my head hurt!" she told Pipe Major Pete at rehearsal.

Gracie McPhee was just a Terrible Tenor Drummer…

And so begins the tale of Gracie McPhee, a picture book about one girl's wild ride at the Highland Games. You won't want to miss the action as bagpipers, dancers and drummers fall prey to Gracie's charm and mischeif.

World Champion tenor drummer Tyler Fry
has this to say about Gracie...

Star drummer, Gracie McPhee, treats readers to a wee taste of Scotland within the world of highland games. I'm confident that drummers (and bagpipers) of all ages will revel in Gracie's terrible antics, mischief and ultimate redemption! Enjoy!

There's a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among the tenor drummers and their respective band colleagues about the opportunity to showcase tenor drumming in a highly entertaining and fun manner. From the Lord of the Todd Challenge in Glasgow, the Innovation Invitational Competition, to newly created solo tenor drumming competitions springing up in every Pipe Band Association around the world....without a doubt we're just getting started!

As a profession, passion or hobby, tenor drumming has enjoyed an explosion over the past decade throughout North America. The Terrible Tenor is a celebration of the popularity of tenor drumming and chance to expose younger audiences to this incredible art form.
