The Terrible Tenor

Beverly Collins Parnell, Author

I began tenor drumming with the Louisville Pipe Band (Louisville, KY) during "an early mid-life crisis." An award-winning tenor drummer, accomplishments include the 2002 Eastern United States Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA) Novice Tenor Drummer of the Year Award and I was ranked in the 2004 EUSPBA Top Five Novice Tenor Drummers. I’ve published in Modern Drummer and Not So Modern Drummer magazines.

My solo bagpiper, Graeme, proposed, I said "yes!" and we moved to Washington. We live in the shadow of Mount Rainier with five cats: Howie, Gypsy, Braveheart, Dylan and Sammie. We’re now members of The Keith Highlanders Pipe Band (Bellevue, WA).

My drumming inspirations include: Tyler Fry, Lisa Frazier, Lisa Caudill, Allie Guerrero, Laura Doll, Reid Maxwell, Manu Katche, Peter Criss, Mick Fleetwood, Viola Smith and Jack Hall. In free time, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, Danskin triathlons, collecting Manolo Blahnik shoes and rooting for University of Alabama football (Roll Tide!).

Being another freckle-faced redhead, I learned to enjoy pipe and drum music, tartans and shortbread from my grandfather and my Scottish cousins, (I learned to love the Scottish accent from Sean Connery!), so when Bev approched me to bring Gracie McPhee to life, I was thrilled! She's a redhead through and through!

I'm a Northwest native, born and living in Seattle. I studied art at the University of Washington and spend my time drawing pictures, designing web sites, and hanging out with my husband, kids and cats. I love to hike, read, garden, watch movies, (especially comedies!), and eat chocolate.
